23rd of July was indeed a day to remember. The students of K.J.SOMAIYA College,Ghatkopar got an opportunity to meet Mr.Jeffery Ellis. Mr. Ellis, a government official from the US consulate. The U.S. Consulate General Mumbai promotes mutual understanding between the people of western India and the United States by organizing and supporting a range of educational and cultural programs and exchanges. Mr.Ellis, was here to promote the possibilities of higher education in the US amongst the Indian students. He has worked in Afghanistan and has helped a few students to move to the US for higher studies. He was a graduate from Wisconsin University.
He had also visited other colleges out of which the Lala Lajpatrai College was one of them. He strongly was in favor of Indian Students going abroad to complete their masters in the media field. He introduced students to various journalism and mass communication programs that are offered to the students in the US.
Some of the universities that he mentioned were renowned for their journalism programs are The Northwestern University and Columbia University. the consulate helps students acquire a student visa to enable them easy access to these universities.these universities also offer scholarships, summer programmes and internships to their students.
The third year journalism students interacted with him and asked him all the doubts that they had in mind. It was a very informative interaction but due to lack of time some of the questions remained unanswered. we wished we could spend a few more hours with him so as to have better understanding of his job and his career growth.
